Netball Shooting Drills

Shooting

Drill 1 – Shoot & Rebound

In pairs, one player should be the shooter and the other the defender.

Shooter has 10 shots from under the post and the defender collects the rebound. The shooter should challenge for the rebound.

Players alternate the drill.

Coaching Tip:

Players should show balance and composure before shooting and always be aiming for the correct height and trajectory.

Drill 2 - 5 Pass and Shoot

3 Players should pass and move around the court 5 times and the the player that receives the 5th pass must shoot from wherever they are positioned.

Coaching Tip: confine an area on the court so that varying lengths of shooting can be practiced. You can also add some defenders in the mix to give extra challenge.

Drill 3 – Weave and Shoot

Place two players behind the goal line and create two equal lines of shooters behind 5 cones which will lead in to the goal circle.

Shooters must run and weave in and out of the cones before being passed the ball by the player behind the goal line and attempt a shot.

A tally can be kept and first to 10 wins or most shots within a 3 minute drill wins.

Coaching Tip: Instead of weaving you can make shooters jump over each cone instead. You can also place the ball on the floor just after the last cone instead of having passers behind the goal line.
