Netball Passing Drills

Netball Passing Drills

Drill 1 – Pass and move around the box

This involves 8 players in total and is a dynamic exercise.

The first 4 players should each have a ball in hand and make a square standing at each corner. A further 4 players should be placed within the square who will be static and will receive passes from the players on the outside whilst they move clockwise around the square from corner to corner.

The idea is to execute a pass at every corner and receive a pass back midway to the next corner.

Once the player passes, receives a pass back and reaches the next corner, the process starts again passing to the next person inside the box. This should be executed quickly so that players are practising passing and moving.

Drill 2 – Pass and Queue Up

Two queues opposite each one another should be formed with one starting with the ball.

The player with the ball in hand starts the drill by making a shoulder pass to the opposite player and then sprinting to the back of the opposite queue.

The process starts over for the player that receives the ball who throws the ball ack the original queue and joins the back of their line.

Drill should continue for as long as desired.

Coaching Tip: You can mix it up by doing one handed passes or chest passes only or by varying the length in between the two queues.

Drill 3 – In the Middle

Players should divide themselves in to 3 teams with one team starting in the middle and the rest of the players forming a ring outside of them. The ball should be passed between members of the ring. If the ball is lost, the team that lost the ball goes into the middle.

After 10 passes, another team should switch with the team in the middle.

You can do this drill with smaller groups by having 1 person in the middle instead of small teams.
